Using fineliners, paints, and ink, German artist Bettina Krieg creates mesmeric linear patterns imbued with vitality and motion. With either obscure, numerical titles, or no title at all, Krieg’s works challenge the viewer to imagine narratives of their own; the artist’s indeterminate subjects evoke materials as varied as infinitely unfolding locks of hair, internal organs, muscle fibres, rolling hills, swelling oceans, or sonic waves. To Krieg, her endlessly expressive pieces conjure up quixotic fantasy worlds, ‘places where everything is possible’.
