Born 1994 in the UK. Lives and works in London.
In his painting, Rouy approaches the body as a site of contradictions: harmony and transformation, ecstasy and turmoil, exploring the figure as expressive of psychic and emotional turbulence.Ambiguities in gender, form and disposition dominate the nude figures in his paintings, whom Rouy views through the prism of digital culture, drawing on contemporary sociocultural issues and changing attitudes towards sexuality and the body as well as ancient and medieval portraiture.
Rouy received a BFA from Camberwell College of Arts in 2015. He has been featured in numerous recent solo exhibitions, including exhibitions at Peres Projects, Berlin (2020); Hannah Barry Gallery,London (2020); V1 Gallery, Copenhagen (2019); and Anna Zorina Gallery, New York (2018).
