Jorinde Voigt’s trademark style emanates from her desire to visually expand the meanings harboured by language and individual words; to this end, Voigt incorporates text from prominent philosophical treatises, popular literature, and other sources, and develops the authors’ visions by translating these words into images, often juxtaposing the two. Voigt’s combination of hand-written notation and swirling, ribbon-like, linear structures is inspired by the temporal dynamism and purpose of musical scores, but her works resemble materials as diverse as physiological studies, topographical lines, and graphical diagrams.
