Keith Haring was an American artist which rose to prominence in the early 1980s with his graffiti drawings made in the subways and on the sidewalks of New York City. Bridging the gap between the art world and the street, Haring combined the appeal of cartoons with the raw energy of Art Brut artists, developing a pop-graffiti aesthetic used to explore themes of subjugation, drug abuse, exploitation, and rising fears of nuclear holocaust. His works can be found in several private and public collections around the world, such as the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Carnegie Museum of Art.
