With references to twentieth-century Minimalism and Colour Field panting, Paul Kremer’s large canvases of clean geometric forms appear as distilled renderings of alien landscapes, or mysterious ephemeral phenomena. His paintings often resemble abstract anaglyphs (images in which a series of shapes are overlaid to create a stereoscopic effect), whose effect is a disorientating sense of depth. Kremer utilises the Internet and social media in his work, both as a means of promulgation and of inspiration for new works. Photographs on his Instagram page make clear the connections between the natural world and his own large-scale biomorphic shapes.
