Ernesto Burgo’s large sculptural forms are evocative of the some of the1950’s abstract Expressionist trends. Burgos transforms ordinary materials such as cardboard, fiberglass, and resin through an intense process of manipulation. Guided partially by intuition, and partially by the personalities of the materials themselves, he bends, tears, cuts, and glues repeatedly until the shape arrives at its final form. He is interested in objects that have gone through a process of change, shifting, and manipulation – with the process still being evident in the piece’s final state. Burgos has held solo exhibitions at Kate Werble Gallery, NY (2012 and 2014); Halsey Mckay Gallery, East Hampton, NY (2013); The Goma, Madrid, ES (2012); and David Castillo Gallery, Miami, FL (2007).
