Sam Francis was an American painter and printmaker which most iconic works are characterized by saturated splashes of color that populate the edges of the canvas in order to emphasize the luminous white void in the center. Often associated with the American Abstract Expressionist movement, Francis also spent a great deal of time in Paris where he became linked with the parallel movement of Art Informel in Europe. The artist’s work can be found in international museum collections around the world, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Museum of Modern Art, New York, the Kunstmuseum Basel and the Centre Pompidou.
